What is ’Invincible Moth’ anyway?

Invincible Moth is a newsletter dedicated to helping people figure out how to navigate careers, break into technology & product management, successfully change jobs, solve tricky career choices and so on.

The name ‘Invincible Moth’ here is a metaphor: moths are attracted to light, but it also often becomes their undoing; ‘Invincible Moth’ is supposed to signify the idea of striving for light without having to be afraid to be burnt by it. All too often people know that they want to make changes to their careers & lives, but are too unsure of themselves or afraid to take risks — with this newsletter, I hope to help convince them to make that leap they know they deserve.

By subscribing, you won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox.

Who is Alex Stern?

I am just a guy who got to try a number of very different things before finding my way to what I consider to be one of the best careers there is, namely, being a Product Manager in technology, and now wants to give a hand to others navigating their own career journeys.

I currently work as a VP of Product Management at large quant hedge fund called Two Sigma in NYC. Before that, I was a Product Lead for a team responsible for funnel & efficiency optimization at Uber Eats, and also worked as Senior PM for the Project Turing effort in Bing, helping build the next generation of enterprise search technology, powered by deep learning. Before it all, I began my career by doing a 4-year stint for an early-stage venture capital firm, and led product development at a mobile gaming startup that I co-founded.

I hold MBA & MS in Design Innovation degrees from Kellogg School of Management & McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University, and also a combined BSc/MSc in Mathematics.

Outside of work, I enjoy taking pictures, traveling and writing, among other things.
